Friday night sees a showdown between the EuroLeague’s top two teams in Piraeus. Fenerbahce boast an impressive winning run but are still 7.5-point underdogs for their game in Greece.
Olympiacos, owners of the EuroLeague’s best record, lost to Panathinaikos last time out to end their own winning run. The Greek club can move two games clear in the loss column with a win on Friday.
Deep into the 2024/25 EuroLeague campaign, our Expert Insights are stacked with basketball betting tips. Expert Sam Cox will have his best bets throughout the regular season.
It’s almost a month since Fenerbahce have lost a game. Only four teams have played at a slower pace in the EuroLeague this season. That pushes us towards a low-scoring, competitive contest in Greece, despite Olympiacos’ stellar campaign to date.
Olympiacos haven’t beaten Fenerbahce by over 14.5 points in their last 10 matchups. Only 153 points were scored when these teams met earlier in the season, and we think Fenerbahce’s elite defence can slow down this high-powered Olympiacos offence. Don’t be surprised if both teams score between 75 and 85 points.
Seven straight EuroLeague wins have Olympiacos sitting pretty atop the standings. A loss to Panathinaikos dealt a potential blow to their chances of domestic success, but another EuroLeague win would no doubt distract from the frustration last time out.
Even with Tyler Dorsey, Moses Wright, and Keenan Evans sidelined through injury, Olympiacos have the strongest roster in the EuroLeague. MVP favourite Sasha Vezenkov has been performing at an elite level all season, while Evan Fournier has been an efficient second option.
With comfortably the best offensive rating and first in net rating, Olympiacos are setting the standard in European hoops.
A win over Galatasaray at the weekend took Fenerbahce to eight consecutive wins across all competitions. They have won four straight in the EuroLeague, defeating Zalgiris, Crvena Zvezda, Alba Berlin, and Anadolu Efes. You have to go all the way back to December 27th for the last time they lost a game.
With an inconsistent offence, which is heavily reliant on Nigel Hayes-Davis, Fenerbahce’s impressive season can be attributed to toughness and great coaching. Their frontcourt rotation is paper thin, with Sarunas Jasikevicius often having to go with an undersized five.
Third in defensive rating, it’s been all about physicality for Fenerbahce. Their offence has been below average among EuroLeague teams.
Fenerbahce secured an 11-point win when these teams met earlier in the season. Olympiacos had won five of the last six competitive meetings but had only covered this spread in one of those games.
Fenerbahce have only won five games against Olympiacos since March 2021. The hosts have had the advantage in recent years.
