Matchday eight welcomes a Stuttgart vs PSG prediction betting preview as the future of both teams in the Champions League rests in the balance. PSG claimed a massive win vs PSG last week and their destiny is now in their own hands.
In fact, for both teams this applies because a draw would be enough to secure a passage into the playoff round. Will this match be played out as a tactical stalemate or might there be a surprise?
UEFA Champions League, Wednesday, January 29th, 20:00 (UK)
The equation is simple; draw this game and both teams will progress into the playoff round. So the first question which must be asked is whether the draw is worth backing at 2.60? The simple answer is probably yes. In recent times, two instances in UEFA Competitions where the draw suited both teams, we did get that outcome. Slovakia vs Romania in Euro 2024 and Borac Banja Luka vs Omonia Nicosia in the Conference League both resulted all square so there will be many out there who are backing the draw at generous odds. However, there are a lot of interchangeables during the night and we could get a situation where other results might mean it’s worth the risk to go for the win and there is less fear of losing.
Under 2.5 goals could be another bet worth considering because it covers the 0-0 and 1-1 scoreline. We just don’t know how this match will progress so taking a stats based option might be the most sensible approach. Both teams rank very high amongst corners obtained in the Champions League this season. Stuttgart averages a huge 8.28 per game and PSG exactly 7. The home side are in some ways a throwback and have been known to reel out a traditional 4-4-2 formation at times this season. They have wide players who will stretch the field and look to put in crosses. PSG will have Achraf Hakimi tearing down the right hand side and average a high number of overall shots. No matter the result, over 9.5 corners would appear to have every chance, even if the two teams play off each other for a draw.
Stuttgart vs PSG Prediction odds via bet365 as at 20:00, January 27th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Stuttgart actually have seven players not registered to play in the Champions League, including exciting young striker Nick Woltemade and new winter signing Jacob Bruun Larsen. Perhaps the biggest blow for the Bundesliga side is the suspension of one of their starting centre backs Anthony Rouault. Ameen Al Dakhil is the favourite to replace him.
New winter signing Kvicha Kvaratskhelia is also not registered for PSG so Bradley Barcola will be starting for the visitors on the left wing. One massive piece of team news is that Portuguese left back Nuno Mendes is suspended. Les Parisians don’t really have a natural replacement so Joao Neves will probably have to fill in. Goncalo Ramo or Ousmane Dembele could be options to come into the side upfront.
Stuttgart possible starting lineup:
Nubel, Mittelstadt, Chabot, Al Dakhil, Vagnoman, Stiller, Keitel, Fuhrich, Millot, Leweling, Undav
PSG possible starting lineup:
Donnarumma, Neves, Pacho, Marquinhos, Hakimi, Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Ruiz. Barcola, Doue, Lee
