This should be an entertaining affair. Both sides will look to attack. The home side is favourites but has shown defensive vulnerabilities. Celtic have won every game in 24/25 which will provide confidence in their trip to Germany.
Europe, Champions League, Tuesday, October 1st, 20:00 (UK)
Dortmund were beaten by Real Madrid in the final of this competition last term. The German club were the better side in the opening 45 minutes. Carlo Ancelotti’s men showed their class and experience in the latter stages as they edged the contest.
Nuri Sahin is the new head coach of Dortmund. An attacking approach is still the preferred option under the Turk. Dortmund are currently 5th in the Bundesliga after five matches. Signal Iduna Park is where they play their best football. The German giants have won all three games here this term with an aggregate score of 10-4.
Celtic are the best side in Scotland by a considerable distance. Brendan Rodgers’ side blows teams away week in and week out back home. Playing in the greatest club competition is a huge step up in class. The Scots accumulated just four points in the group stage last season as they shipped 15 goals. Celtic lost all three away days in 23/24 without finding the back of the net.
I want to get Dortmund onside in this encounter. They’re the better team despite their defensive struggles at times. They found themselves 2-0 down against Bochum here on Friday night. Sahin’s side turned it on and comfortably won the game.
Backing a home win with three or more goals is a sensible selection. We have a range of scores on our side.
Serhou Guirassy switched from Stuttgart to Dortmund over the summer. The 28-year-old scored 28 Bundesliga goals in as many matches in 23/24. The £16m fee looks like a great piece of business.
Goals are likely in this clash. I would back either offence over the defence. The Guinea international has found the back of the net in all three previous appearances for Dortmund with four goals. The number nine could be the man who takes a penalty if his side were to be awarded one.
Celtic have been immaculate in the Scottish Premier League this season. Six wins from six without conceding a goal. A Champions League away day at Borussia Dortmund is an almighty challenge.
The home side are priced at 1.40 to score two goals here. The Asian Handicap is set at -1.25. Dortmund is likely to win this game in style. Backing their star forward to find the back of the net is a bet I am happy to take. Guirassy will get chances here. He can guide one of them into the opposition net.
Greg Taylor is in for a tough night. He’ll be the starting left-back for Celtic in Germany. Karim Adeyemi is exceptionally quick. He will be operating from the right-hand side. If the Scotsman fails to keep the road runner at arm’s length, then it’s goodnight.
I’m keen to back the 26-year-old to pick up a booking on Tuesday night. The home crowd will act as the 12th man for the home side. They’ll be loud and eager to alert the referee when an opponent commits a foul. Greg Taylor has been cautioned twice in six matches this season in Scotland. That’s a decent record, considering his side dominates proceedings a lot of the time.
The full-back was shown a yellow in half of his six matches last season in this competition. Taylor committed two fouls in Celtic’s 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava. Adeyemi was fouled three times in Belgium last time out against Club Brugge.
With the sheer pace and trickery the German possesses, any slight kick will send him tumbling. Taylor has been receiving cards at a solid rate in the 24/25 season. He has every chance of adding to that tally in Dortmund.
Dortmund vs Celtic Prediction odds via bet365 as at 13:00, September 30th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Marcel Sabitzer was out of the game against Dortmund on Friday night. He’s likely to be available for the upcoming clash. Gio Reyna hasn’t played any football since August. The American international is set to be back soon but will likely miss this encounter.
Cameron Carter-Vickers appears to be the only absentee. He’s been out for a short period but may not play a part on Tuesday night. Brendan Rodgers’ side looks fit and ready to take on the German giants. They’ll need to be on top of their game to earn a positive result.
