Atalanta completed the podium in third with 74 points, while Juventus secured Champions League football by finishing fourth. The league’s competitiveness was underlined by the slim margins separating the top teams, with a play-off even possible for the title until the final round.
Napoli’s success was built on a solid defense and a balanced attack. Their 59 goals scored and only 27 conceded demonstrated both efficiency and resilience. Inter, on the other hand, boasted the league’s best attack with 79 goals, but their title challenge ultimately fell short by the narrowest of margins. Atalanta’s attacking prowess was also notable, finishing as the second-highest scorers with 78 goals, thanks largely to the efforts of Mateo Retegui, who ended the season as the league’s top scorer with 25 goals.
European Qualification
The battle for European qualification was equally fierce. Fiorentina and Lazio finished level on 65 points, but goal difference saw Fiorentina edge into sixth and a Europa League spot, while Lazio settled for seventh and a Conference League place. AC Milan, usually a regular in the Champions League, finished eighth and missed out on Europe entirely, a rare occurrence for the Rossoneri.
Roma finished 5th under Claudio Ranieri, with only a point behind the Bianconeri, losing out on the Champions League, but still earning a consolation prize with a Europa League spot. Italy will have four representatives in the Champions League this season with Napoli, Inter Milan, and Atalanta already being mainstays, with Juve making a comeback after a one-year absence.
Relegation
At the bottom of the table, Monza’s season was a struggle from the outset. Relegation was confirmed well before the final matchday, with Monza finishing last on just 18 points, one of the lowest totals in Serie A history. The club, which had enjoyed a rapid rise under Silvio Berlusconi, faced a sharp decline following managerial instability and a lack of form. Empoli and Venezia also dropped into Serie B, with Empoli finishing on 31 points and Venezia on 29.
Standout Players and Statistics
Individually, Mateo Retegui stood out as the league’s top scorer, netting 25 times for Atalanta, accounting for nearly a third of his team’s goals. Moise Kean of Fiorentina followed with 19 goals, while Ademola Lookman added 15 for Atalanta.
The assist charts were led by Romelu Lukaku of Napoli, who provided 10 assists alongside his 14 goals, highlighting his importance in both creating and finishing chances. Christian Pulisic of AC Milan and Raoul Bellanova of Atalanta finished close behind with nine assists.

Serie A Competition Format
Each team will play a total of 38 games this season. Traditionally, the league format also means that the team with the most points at the end of the season will get to be crowned the Serie A champion.
The top four Italian teams will earn qualification to the Champions League next season. At the same time, the fifth team will earn a spot in the Europa League group stage qualification, while the sixth team on the table will get to play in the Conference League play-off round.
As before, the last three teams on the table will be relegated to Serie B and will be replaced by top teams from the second-tier league of Italian football.
